A damping hinge is a rotating shaft component with a damping function, commonly used in various hinge structures. It is defined as: a type of shaft component, essential in hinge products, that can withstand both bending moments and torque.
Its working principle relies on generating friction through the mutual compression of washers. The magnitude of this friction depends on the number of installed washers and the tightness of the nut. For example, when we open a laptop screen, a certain amount of force needs to be applied, but this force does not need to be excessive; when the screen is flipped to a certain position and stopped, it does not shake or fall arbitrarily precisely because the friction generated by the hinge allows it to remain stable at any angle.
Typically, the torque testing of damping hinges utilizes a professional floor-standing hinge torque tester. This equipment is suitable for torque testing of various components or complete products with built-in hinges, such as those in notebooks, learning tablets, flip phones, and automotive hinges. It can perform fully automatic testing, plot angle-torque curves, and conduct multiple inspections including lifespan testing, force attenuation testing, destructive testing, and over-torque testing.
The damping hinge torque testing procedure is as follows:
Fix the hinge onto the test head of the torque tester, and assemble the screwdriver onto the hinge.
Switch the screwdriver to automatic mode, and manually rotate it in the reverse direction to slightly loosen the nut on the hinge.
Before starting the test, press the "Peak" key to select the peak hold (PEAK) state, then press the "Clear" key to ensure the LCD screen displays a torque value of zero.
Start the screwdriver's automatic mode to begin rotation until the screwdriver stops by itself.
When the screwdriver stops rotating, the value displayed on the LCD screen is the output torque. The rotation test (steps 2-5) can be repeated 2 to 5 times to verify the stability and consistency of the torque. If the torque does not meet the requirements, it can be adjusted by loosening or tightening the nut on the screwdriver to meet the usage needs.
